Healing is the process of repairing tissue discontinuities. It is of very variable duration depending on the type of tissue and the depth of the wound.
The healing process generally occurs in 4 stages. The first involves blood coagulation, it will protect the formation of new tissues. Then the inflammation will make it possible to mobilize the white blood cells which will clean the area of pathogens. Then comes the cleansing phase during which the dead cells will be partly eliminated. And finally, the proliferation of new tissues will come to rebuild the damaged epithelium.
The speed and quality of healing will also depend on the general state of health of the individual.
A pressure ulcer is a special type of wound. It takes place when the tissues are no longer sufficiently vascularized. The cells, not supplied with blood, will then die. Localized tissue necrosis will appear. A pressure sore is often caused by prolonged bed rest .
